BRIDGWATER TOWN COUNCIL

Bridgwater Town Council is Labour controlled. 14 Labour to 2 Conservative. Bridgwater Borough council existed until 1974 when it was abolished to make way for Sedgemoor District Council (or 'direct rule from Cheddar'). The Borough Council was Labour controlled and is fondly remembered as a progressive force in Bridgwaters history with major developments such as the Lido, the West street re-development and the Council House building programmes in Hamp and Sydenham. In 2000 a Town council for Bridgwater was revived by the Labour government and has been gradually increasing it's responsibilities.

On May 5th 2011 Labour  kept control of the Town Council and increased it's share of the control from 10.6 to 14.2.
